Name

• Synodontis tanganyicae Borodin, 1936

Lectotype: MCZ 32538. Paralectotypes: MCZ 148517 (1).

Type locality: Kasanga, Lake Tanganyika.

Etymology: The specific name tanganyicae refers to the origin of the species, Lake Tanganyika.

Note: In the original description, Borodin spelled the species name two ways, including the main heading (once as tanganyicae, p. 3) and used the same spelling for other taxa; the selection as tanganyicae by De Vos & Thys van den Audenaerde (1998:148 - footnote) is apparently against the wishes of the original author, but it is perhaps the first valid first reviser action. However, the emending spelling tanganaicae may have been established earlier (see De Vos & Thys van den Audenaerde.
