Name

[edit]

Holotype (unique): BMNH 1863.12.9.3 (skeleton).

Type locality: Jebba, Upper Niger, western Africa.[1]

Etymology: The species is named after a genus of weevils, Omias, with which the author perhaps saw similarities. The weevils got their name after a person in Greek mythology. Omias was a Lacedaemonian and the chief of the ten commissioners who were sent once to King Philip V. on a mission.
