Name

Holotype: BMNH 1898.9.9.76.
Type locality: Sumbu, Lake Tanganyika.
Etymology: The specific name multipunctatus is a combination of the Latin multi (= many), and the Latin punctum (= dot or spot), it refers to the pattern of the species, consisting of many dots on the body.
