Name[edit]

Sternarchorhynchus montanus de Santana & Vari, 2010: 324.

Holotype: MUSM 31312 (formerly AUM 46270, in part). [Paratype: LACM 41741–44, (1)].

Type locality: Peru. Amazonas: Río Marañon, pongo above Borja, 35.5 km north-east Juan Velasco, Santa Maria de Nieva (4° 27′ 36″ S, 77° 34' 53" W).

Etymology: The species name montanus from the Latin for mountains, refers to the type location of the type series in the foothills of the Andean Cordilleras.
