Holotype: SAIAB 85916. Paratypes: SMF 28265 (27); SAIAB 85917 (specimens 14fish, 16fish), 85911 (25fish, 26fish), 85918 (37fish, 38fish, 43fish).

Type locality: Namibia, East Caprivi, upper Zambezi River at Katima Mulilo, approx. 17°29'30"S, 24°16'18"E.[1]

Etymology: The specific name is a combination of the Latin longus (= long) and caput (= head), refering to the relatively long head of the species.
