Name[edit]

  • Onigocia macrocephala (Weber, 1913)

Lectotype: ZMA 112436. Paralectotypes (2): ZMA 112438, 112439. Remarks: Weber (1913) originally described Platycephalus macrocephalus based on seven specimens. Of them, four specimens (38.3–40.7 mm SL) from Sapeh Strait are identical with Onigocia grandisquama (see Imamura (2012) for details).

Type locality: Bali Sea, Siboga station 15, 7°2.6’S, 115°23.6’E, 100 m depth.[1]

Etymology: The specific name is a combination of the Greek makros (= long) and kephale (= head), referring to the relatively long head of the species.
