Name[edit]

Notomuraenobathys Balushkin & Prirodina, 2010: 226. Gender: Maskulin.

Type species: Muraenolepis microcephala Norman, 1937

Etymology: The name is formed by a combination of the stem of the name of the type genus of the family (muraeno-), and from Greek notos (for south) and bathys (for deep). The name indicates to the life of the type species at bathyal depths of high latitudes of the Southern Ocean.
