Name[edit]

Holotype: UG/CSBD 1688 [ex ROM 89675]. Paratypes: many at ROM.

Type locality: Upper Mazaruni River, near mouth of Kamarang River, 5°51'56.80"N, 60°36'32.076"W, Cuyuni-Mazaruni (Region 7), Guyana.[1]

Etymology: From the Greek pala, meaning gold nugget, in reference to the golden spots behind and under the orbit. Also in reference to the fact that this species has only been collected in the main channel of the upper Mazaruni River, where a growing gold mining industry may be contributing to degradation of its habitat.
