Type locality: Capricorn Channel, east of Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia, 22°52'S, 152°42'E, depth 225 - 282 meters.

Etymology: The Latin "tetra" means four and "bulla" means knob, in reference to four large flattened bucklers covering on top of skull.
