Name

[edit]

Lutjanus papuensis Allen, White & Erdmann, 2013

Holotype: MZB 21123. Paratypes: CSIRO H 7407-01; USNM 408444; WAM P. 33780-001.

Type locality: Indonesia, West Papua Province, Cenderawasih Bay, East Wandammen, 02°36.153’S, 134°39.148’E [1], 10 m.

Etymology: The species is named papuensis after the West Papuan location where it was first collected. Also, West Papua (particularly Cenderawasih Bay) appears to be the stronghold of the distribution, judging from its abundance compared to other locations within the known range.
