- Typus: Peru, Dept. Cajamarca, Prov. Celendin, desvio a Guagal siguiendo la ruta a Celendin, 3700 m, Sánchez Vega et al. 2021 (Holotypus: MU; isotypi: ASU, F, CPUN).
- Etymology: named in honour of Walter Hewitson.
