Type: U.S.A. ALASKA. Mt. Hayes Quadrangle. Upper Tanana River near the Gerstle River, 63o 54' N, 144o 53' W, lower branches of Picea glauca, 370 m, 23 VII 1965, L. Viereck 7749A (holotype: ALA; isotype UBC,).

Etymology: Salsa is from the Latin, salsus, salted: a reference to the tiny, pale, nonclumping soredia spread diffusely over the upper surface.
