Hyphessobrycon psittacus Dagosta et al., 2016

  • Holotype: MZUSP 115550.
  • Paratypes: many.

Type locality: Brazil, Mato Grosso State, Sapezal, Rio Papagaio, a tributary of the Rio Juruena, upper Rio Tapajóos basin, 13°33'41.7"S, 58°24'26.9"W.

Etymology: The specific name psittacus comes from the Latin word for parrot, in allusion to the type locality, the Rio Papagaio, which means ‘‘Parrot River’’ in Portuguese.
