Type locality: 18°32’S, 118°17’E [1], 175 km north of Port Hedland, Northwest Shelf, Western Australia, 200–204 m depth.

Etymology: The species is named for Dr. Hisashi Imamura, associate professor of Hokkaido University (HUMZ), in honor of his great contribution to the systematics of the Platycephaloidea, including the Hoplichthyidae.
