Holotype: MNHN -IU-2013-8356, ♂, 24 October 1991.
Type locality: Indonesia. Kei Islands. KARUBAR, Stn DW18, 05°18'S, 133°01'E, 205–212 m.
Etymology: The name Grus, the crane, refers to one of the southern hemisphere constellations.
