Holotype: ZRC 2.6976, adult male, collected on 29 March 2011 by L. Grismer and Chan, K. O.
Type locality: Ringlet, Cameron Highlands, Pahang, Peninsular Malaysia (04°24.516 N, 100°22.591 E) at 1109 m elevation.
Etymology: The word trilatofasciatus comes from the Latin words ter meaning three, latus meaning wide, and fasciatus meaning banded and refers the diagnostic character state of having three wide bands.
