Name[edit]

Chiloglanis trilobatus Seegers, 1996

  • Holotype: MRAC MRAC 94-34-P-938.
  • Paratypes: MRAC 94-34-P-939-947 (9), -948 (1), -949 (1), -950-955 (6), -956-1002 (47), -1003-1049 (47), -1050-1077 (28); SAIAB [formerly RUSI] 50336 (10); ZMA 190788 (25); ZMB 32613-14 (20, 10); ZMH 8592-95 (22, 10, 10, 1).

Type locality: Piti River, an affluent of the Rungwa River, eastern Lake Rukwa drainage, Mbeya Region, western Tanzania, 7°27'S, 33°25'E [1].

Etymology: The specific name is a combination of the Latin words tri (= three), and lobos (= lappet, lobe); it refers to the caudal fin of the species which has three lobes.
