bad list[edit]

Only 18 of these taxa are named for René Charles Joseph Ernest Maire. The other 54 are named for Edouard-Ernest Maire. 2603:8000:B640:547F:ED36:5378:2D88:8018 12:40, 6 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

(Partially) Fixed I was able to remove most of the species named for Edouard-Ernest Maire (for instance all the "mairei" species named by Léveillé are for him). But I'm still left with 22 species rather than 18. Which four are still wrong then, if you know? Monster Iestyn (talk) 23:34, 6 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
...Actually, on second thoughts, maybe all the remaining 22 taxa in this category are for Réné Maire as after all? According to their biographies, Réné Maire collected plants in North Africa while Edouard-Ernest Maire collected from China. Checking all the remaining eponyms, I'm finding that of those I can check the original descriptions for, all of them were described from North Africa, and some even mention Réné by name (either in full or abbreviated forms like "R. Maire"). For those I could not check the original descriptions for, their names were published in a journal limited in scope to North Africa anyway. It seems almost safe to assume that all of them are therefore are eponyms of Réné and not Edouard therefore. The only thing making me doubt this is the original description for Ononis cenisia var. mairei mentioning a "Robert Maire" [1]. Unless this is also Réné Maire?
