Name[edit]

Carcharhinus leucas (Müller & Henle, 1839)

  • Syntypes (4): MNHN A-9650 (1, dry), A-9652 (1, dry), uncat. (2, lost).

Type locality: Antilles, western Atlantic.

Etymology: From leucas (= white), referring to body color (usually grayish with white underside). (From The ETYFish Project)
