Type location: U.S.A. North Dakota: Oliver Co., ca. 2 mi [3.2 km] S, 4 mi [6.4 km] E of Hensler, The Nature Conservancy's Cross Ranch Preserve, Sangor Ghost Town, gentle slopes of mixed grass prairie, Missouri River Valley floodplain, elev. 1690 ft. [515 m], 47o10'48"N, 100o59'42"W, on old concrete foundation, 5 Jun 2007, M. K. Advaita 6100 (MIN, holotype; ASU, GZU, KANU, LD, NY and others, isotypes)

Ecology and distribution: Usually grows on concrete but has also been found on calcareous rocks, and rarely on non-calcareous sandstone. It is fairly common in the central U.S. from North Dakota south to Kansas, and often grows without apothecia and then may be easily overlooked.
