Benthosema pluridens Schwarzhans & Aguilera, 2013

  • Holotype: NMB P951, Otolith.
  • Paratypes: (4), NMB P952-955, Otoliths.

Type locality and horizon: Atlantic Panama, Rio Piña river mouth, PPP 1652, Chagres FM, Late Tortonian, Late Miocene (NN 11a).

Etymology: From pluries (Latin) (= more), and dens (Latin) (= tooth), referring to the many denticles on the ventral rim as compared to its closest relative, the Recent Benthosema panamense.
