- Type locality: California, Kern Co., Bakersfield, South Bank of Kern River, 35.3947, -119.03135, elev. 137m, coll. W. Icenogle 6.x.1971.
- Etymology: The specific epithet is patronym in honor of Daniel Tripp in recognition of the Tripp family support of biodiversity research and scholarship at East Carolina University, Greenville, North Carolina.
