Name

[edit]

Aphyosemion pseudoelegans Sonnenberg & van der Zee, 2012

Holotype: MRAC 178016. Paratypes: MRAC 178017 (1); ZSM 40762 (ex ZSM 32434) (10).

Type locality: Democratic Republic of Congo, Équateur Province, Tshuapa Basin, Boende, 0°14’S, 20°50’E.

Etymology: The name Aphyosemion pseudoelegans refers to the misidentification as Aphyosemion elegans, a similar species, but lacking the typical dark red dorsal fin and the asymmetric caudal fin colour pattern; from the Greek pseudes, meaning lying or false, the latter is the intended translation.
