- Etymology: after the "anonymity and moss-like resemblance of the species" (Swenson, 1995:187))
- Type locality: "Summit of Rakiahua", Stewart Island, New Zealand
- According to Swenson (1995:187), the mountain is now spelled "Rakeahua"
- Lectotype: Kirk s.n. (AK 10473, isolectotype K)
- Selected by Swenson (1995:187).
