Welcome to Wikispecies!

Hello, and welcome to Wikispecies! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages you might like to see:

If you have named a taxon, then it is likely that there is (or will be) a Wikispecies page about you, and other pages about your published papers. Please see our advice and guidance for taxon authors.

If you have useful images to contribute to Wikispecies, please upload them at Wikimedia Commons. This is also true for video or audio files containing bird songs, whale vocalization, etc.

Please sign your comments on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your username (if you're logged in) and the date. Please also read the Wikispecies policy What Wikispecies is not. If you need help, ask me on my talk page, or in the Village Pump. Again, welcome!

Thanks for helping with the templates. OhanaUnitedTalk page 07:36, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No problem! It's good to help out!  Sevenseas Talk Contribs  20:17, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please be careful![edit]

You have added some incorrect information in Scarabaeus. Please be more careful! Stho002 00:15, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Will do, Thanks.  Sevenseas Talk Contribs  00:18, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
creating pages without content (like all those Meta pages) is a no-no. It artificially adds to the number of pages tally. I should really delete them. Please don't do it. Stho002 00:52, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm confused, what was missing from them? I've seen other pages here with at most the same amount of information as the ones I created. That said, if improvement is required, I'll do it. Thanks.  Sevenseas Talk Contribs  01:15, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You don't seem to understand what are doing! There is NO INFORMATION on those Meta pages, AT LEAST you need to add the author/date of the species. You can get that information for Meta here: http://research.amnh.org/iz/spiders/catalog/TETRAGNATHIDAE.html

OK, thanks for the advice, but I am still new here and hard as I try to get things perfect, I will make mistakes. But I guess if this is not acceptable here then I shouldn't be editing here. Thanks.  Sevenseas Talk Contribs  01:29, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry about it. That's just how Stho002 is. ;) We all got to start somewhere and you seem like you're willing to learn. That's all we ask. Usually, when you create a new page you should add whatever reference you're using along with other info such as synonyms, type species, interwikis, vernacular names, and maybe an image, but as a minimum you should at least include the author/date. Otherwise, if there's no info, there's not much point to the page, right? I know some existing pages don't even have this, but we would like to keep those to a minimum. Thanks and hope you enjoy working here. Rocket000 02:33, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I see, that makes sense. If I come across more pages with no author/date, I'll add them. Thanks. :)  Sevenseas Talk Contribs  20:16, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That page is with regards to a taxon authority (scientist who differentiate one species with another, plus giving names to newly discovered species). They don't need to follow "standard taxon formatting" as they are biographies. OhanaUnitedTalk page 04:02, 13 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Of course, my mistake. I must have got a little confused with the name. Thank for pointing that out. :)  Sevenseas Talk Contribs  14:57, 13 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Deleting pages[edit]

Hi :) Some time ago I have received an advice from OhanaUnited: "Try avoid tagging ... not using standard formatting if it can be fixed in few minutes. Scientists start to love the wiki because they can observe how information transforms by public-at-large, but become furious if their time spent was deleted in the end." I'm sure, he was right. Ark (talk page) 20:10, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'll remember that in future, thanks. :)  Sevenseas Talk Contribs  22:35, 15 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Species subgenera[edit]

Please add the species subgenera standard. See template. G. (S.) species –

Thanks for the note, but I think it was meant for Sanja565658 (who created the pages) rather than me. All I'm doing is standardising the pages. I hadn't got onto those templates yet. I'll leave a note on Sanja565658's talk page. Thanks.  Sevenseas Talk Contribs  14:31, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
