Please don't blank pages![edit]

Please explain why you are blanking pages? This is not done ... Stho002 22:33, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Even if they are empty?[edit]

There has been a major taxonomic rearrangement in the basal pleurocarpous mosses which I am trying to represent correctly here. A couple of the pages I was blanking are for families that now no longer have any genera, because these have been moved. E.g. Spiridens and Franciella were previously in the Spiridentaceae (the only genera in that family) but are now in the Hypnodendraceae. So Spiridentaceae no longer contains any genera. Maybe I should have left the "name" part of the page at least? The problem I am having is that although I have edited the templates for the genera to link to the new family (Hypnodendraceae in this case), when the genus page itself is displayed it is still showing the old taxonomy above the family level, almost as if there are two templates for Hypnodendraceae with the same name.. I was trying various ways to get around this. last time I looked the problem seemed to have been solved for Spiridens but not for Cyrtopus & Bescherellia. I am new to Wikispecies so will gladly accept advice. I am a professional systematist specialising in these organisms and know what I am doing with the taxonomy itself, but am not so familiar with wikis. I promise that the new arrangement will be consistent and correct once I have finished with it, but as I am new to this I may take a few U turns... Anyway, I will continue with this tomorrow. OK, figured it out[edit]

I'd left a space before the br thing in some of the genera templates. Spiridens 23:29, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

As you describe the situation, Spiridentaceae becomes a synonym of Hypnodendraceae, so you need to redirect Spiridentaceae to Hypnodendraceae, and list Spiridentaceae as a synonym on the Hypnodendraceae page. I will do it for you this time ... Stho002 00:02, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Calm down![edit]

Calm down! Don't try to communicate with him. I can easily revert his vandalism at the push of a button. Stho002 01:52, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I wasn't necessarily to know that. I am grateful for your help but a less peremptory attitude would be appreciated. Spiridens 01:57, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

advice for improving your edits[edit]

  • please use === on each side of the Synonyms, not ==
  • it isn't compulsory, but I am keen to improve the quality of referencing by adding where possible ISSN/ISBN numbers, DOIs, and/or other links to PDFs/abstracts

Ok, will do. Is there a way to batch-replace all the ones I have done already?Spiridens 20:41, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
