Welcome to Wikispecies!

Hello, and welcome to Wikispecies! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages you might like to see:

If you have named a taxon, then it is likely that there is (or will be) a Wikispecies page about you, and other pages about your published papers. Please see our advice and guidance for taxon authors.

If you have useful images to contribute to Wikispecies, please upload them at Wikimedia Commons. This is also true for video or audio files containing bird songs, whale vocalization, etc.

Please sign your comments on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your username (if you're logged in) and the date. Please also read the Wikispecies policy What Wikispecies is not. If you need help, ask me on my talk page, or in the Village Pump. Again, welcome!

Akan names

[edit]

Hi Flixtey - thanks for adding these, a useful addition! Just wanted to double-check, are you sure Acanthiza lineata (native to Australia, not found in any Akan-speaking area) has an Akan name? Thanks! - MPF (talk) 09:02, 18 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi MPF - thanks for this very necessary question. Its very true that this bird is peculiar to Australia, however birds of this size are called Anomaa in the Akan dialect hence my contribution. Even though it's not from hear, remember the purpose of all this is to share knowledge and to precisely give people the opportunity to variety. The name I used is exactly how an Akan native will call it. Thanks Flixtey (talk) 11:11, 18 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hi Flixtey - thanks for the reply! Unfortunately, this isn't how Wikispecies works: names have to be verifiable from outside sources. So if you can add Akan names that are verified from other texts (like an Akan-language edition of this), that is excellent, but Wikispecies is not the place to speculate on what a species might be called by Akan speakers if they encountered it. Hope this helps! - MPF (talk) 17:40, 18 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hi MPF, I appreciate the clarification and thanks for your time.I will revert the changes on the page right away.Flixtey (talk) 17:45, 18 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
