Welcome to Wikispecies!

Hello, and welcome to Wikispecies! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages you might like to see:

If you have named a taxon, then it is likely that there is (or will be) a Wikispecies page about you, and other pages about your published papers. Please see our advice and guidance for taxon authors.

If you have useful images to contribute to Wikispecies, please upload them at Wikimedia Commons. This is also true for video or audio files containing bird songs, whale vocalization, etc.

Please sign your comments on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your username (if you're logged in) and the date. Please also read the Wikispecies policy What Wikispecies is not. If you need help, ask me on my talk page, or in the Village Pump. Again, welcome! Taxon authority pages are for simple identifying information, they are not for full biographies. Please do not place full biographies of Thai biologists here. The proper place for these is the Thai Wikipedia. Even people like Linnaeus, Boulenger, John Edward Gray, and David Starr Jordan, who described many, many species, do not have long biographies here. The purpose of pages about scientists here at Wikispecies is to identify authors of names. It is not a Who's Who of biologists, however notable for non-taxonomic reasons. The only criterion for a page here is simply that a person is the author of a taxonomic name, even if that person is not otherwise notable. Mr. Nakhasathien definitely should have a page at Wikipedia for his impact on the world, but since he is not the author of any taxonomic names (as far as I can find), his notability in other areas does not justify his having a page here. Thanks for your work on Thai taxonomists like Phaibul Naiyanetr. That page is a good example of the content we need here, and of the people we need pages for. Koumz (talk) 13:01, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
