Sponges notes[edit]

  • Ute: originally described by Schmidt (1862: 16) with only one species Ute capillosa [type species by monotypy (?)]. In 1864, Schmidt exclude Ute capillosa from the genus Ute, recombinated it as Sycon capillosus (p. 22), and reorganize Ute (p. 22) containing two (new) species: Ute glabra and Ute chrysalis. Dendy & Row (1913) designated Ute glabra as type species (p. 764). So, Ute Schmidt, 1862 or Schmidt, 1864 ? [Schmidt 1862 becomes a nomen nudum because the lost of type species ?]
  • Tethyadae was used (described?) for the first time in Gray, 1848 (p. 1), but Opinion 1182 (1981: 174) conserved the name as Gray, 1867 (p. 540).
  • Tethya was described in Lamarck (1815: 69) but Opinion 1182 (1981: 174) conserved the name as Lamarck, 1814.
