My Barbenthos project
was a privately run marine deepwater bottom-sampling project
based at Holetown, Barbados, West Indies -primarily seeking rare molluscan seashells
but also assisting researchers from the local Bellairs Research Institute (McGill Univ.)
with various offshore tasks of their own.
The project lasted for four years: 1985-1989
and used a converted 19 foot Aquasport work-boat named Barbenthos
equipped with a winch and davit for getting various gear and equipment on board, after retrieval from depth.
In 1989, a new species of Olivella was named after the project
published in La Conchiglia Volume 238-241
with type material deposited at the Zoologisch Museum in Amsterdam.
