This template is not working. For example,

does not link to genus Staurastrum but to the main Taxonomy Browser. As AlgaeBase has changed its identifiers at least twice during the last years, the usage of this template is not recommended. Better to link directly per URL to the wanted page http://www.algaebase.org/search/genus/detail/?genus_id=43546. --Thiotrix (talk) 07:32, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Thiotrix: in general, giving full URLs is a bad idea, because if AlgaeBase will change identifiers, all full URLs has to be correct manually. (But giving archieved URL may be actually a good solution.) Using {{AlgaeBase}} is better, allowing batch correcting, but the best solution is to get identifiers from Wikidata. Unfortunately {{Taxonbar}} is not yet accepted --Estopedist1 (talk) 17:28, 28 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
But Wikidata has just URLs for AlgaeBase too, no identifiers. --Thiotrix (talk) 20:48, 28 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Thiotrix: thanks, my bad! I probably know the working solution, but it is ahead of time (related to archieved URLs in Wikidata) and quite hard to explain in detail. We can move on this topic if we have working and acceptable {{Taxonbar}}. At the moment, the only thing WS users can do is to manually put AlgaeBase URLs in articles. And if URL is broken, then manually to be fixed--Estopedist1 (talk) 17:28, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
