The wandering albatross is a large seabird in the albatross family (Diomedeidae), inhabiting the oceans of the Southern Hemisphere up to 60° S latitude. It has the largest wingspan of any living bird. It spends most of its time in the air over the open sea, taking advantage of the rising air currents generated by the waves. It lands only during calm periods or to feed. It can cover a distance of 500 km per day.
