Talk:Sylviidae

A web page by Don Roberson [1] outlines the problems facing the retention of the Sylviidae as long defined. In particular the genus Sylvia itself appears to be more closely related to the babblers in the Timaliidae than to the rest of this family. If that is removed, the remainder should be divided into 4 or more families - obviously none of which would be called Sylviidae.

One family Roberson proposed, which he tentatively names Bernieridae, would include several related but divergent species in Madagascar which have formerly been scattered around the Sylviidae, Timaliidae and Pycnonotidae.

In the absence of firm decisions in this area, the traditional Sylviidae is here retained for the moment.
