Taxonomic Notes in Witt, T.J. & L.Ronkay, 2011: Lymantriinae and Arctiinae - Including Phylogeny and Check List of the Quadrifid Noctuoidea of Europe. Noctuidae Europaeae Volume 13: 1-448. The correct spelling of the subtribe, despite of the traditional use, is Spilosomatina. The generic content of the subtribe is debatable, see the taxonomic notes of the tribe Arctiini. Moreover, a thorough, worldwide revision of the Spilosoma-Spilarctia generic complex is highly desirable. This complex is far the largest generic lineage within the Old World Arctiini, containing a large number of disputed or poorly investigated taxa which have never been revised by modern morphological and molecular methods.
