I have failed to find out any evidence that R. of R.D. Brettell stands for Robert apart from es:Robert D. Brettell, where no reference verifies R. = Robert (n.v.: H.Rob. & Brettel, Studies in the Heliantheae (Asteraceae). Phytologia memoirs. Ed. H.N. Moldenke and A.L.
