Etymology: From Greek word stem ροδο- (rhodo-) indicating the rose color and the verb πλέκω (pleko) – interwine.

Description: Filaments consolidated into fascicles, partly rope-like contorted, rarely solitary, unbranched. Filaments forming compact colony (thallus), attached to the substratum, pinkish. Sheaths thin, colorless and slightly to rarely distinct. Trichomes straight to curved, 0.72–1.09 μm wide, slightly constricted at the cross walls. Cells more or less isodiametric, with peripheral thylakoids. Apical cells rounded without calyptra.
