Distribution
[edit]- New Zealand
- Biostatus: endemic
- North Island (AK, ND)
- South Island (BR)
- Source: Johnson (1982: 363)
Notes
[edit]- this species belongs to the Ptinella cavelli group
- this species is very close to P. brunnescens, and I am not convinced that they are distinct
- Source: Johnson (1982)
Other notes
[edit]- Kuschel (1990: 24) records this species as 'very common (more than 50)' on the ground (as opposed to canopy) in native bush at Lynfield (AK), the type locality
- Kuschel (1990: 24) records this and all other listed Ptinella as having both winged and flightless forms, but this is incorrect for P. ferruginea and P. cavelli
