Specific name

Bielawski (1979) proposed the names Phymatosternus khalaus and Ph. samchus, obviously formed from the holotype locations Khala and Samchi, but without indicating whether the specific epithets are to be treated as adjectives or as nouns in apposition. These species are now placed in Platyaspis and subsequent authors (Dorji, 2019; Poorani, 2023) have treated them as adjectives which change ending in gender agreement with the genus name, and this usage is followed here. The same Bielawski paper also proposed Calvia monosha and Epilachna monsuna with no explanation at all, but the epithets do appear to have been coined in gender agreement.--Keith Edkins (Talk) 14:07, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
