According to Seeno & Wilcox (1982) and Bezděk (2020), Lycaste Gistel, 1848 was proposed as a replacement name for Chalcophana Chevrolat, 1836, and is currently a junior subjective synonym of it. On top of this, Lycaste Gistel, 1848 is also a junior homonym of Lycaste Gistel, 1834 in Buprestidae and Lycaste Agassiz, 1846 in Crustacea.

However, in Monros & Bechyné (1956), Lycaste Gistel, 1848 is treated as a separate and valid genus. This is followed by Flowers (1995, 2003), who redescribed the genus in this sense and restricted it to the two species listed in the main page.
