Distribution[edit]

It is found growing in the Satpuda mountain ranges and its offshoots in Nandurbar, Dhule, Jalgaon districts in Maharashtra state in India. It is species of dry and hot climatic locality and is found in the Southern Tropical Dry Deciduous Mixed Forest type. Occasionally it forms pure patches. It grows on hilltops, slopes and in plains. Its growth is restricted to the areas having minimum temperature of 10 degrees C. and maximum of 48 degrees C. and rainfall ranging from 300 to 700 mm per annum. It grows in the various soil types ranging from murrumy to black cotton and soil depth varying from 30 cms. to few metres. Uses[edit]

Its leaves are excellent fodder for milch cattle. The settlememnt of populations of communities rearing milch cattle like cows and buffaloes, are always seen on outskirts of Hardwickia forest areas. Such areas in Dhule district are Laling, Sadgaon, Ajnale, Gotane, Chaugaon, Kakane,Ubhand, and Nandre villages and Lasur, Krushnapur and Varad villages (near Chopada) in Jalgaon district in Maharashtra state, India. The wood is very good fuel wood and has very high calorific value.
