Genus Epalzeorhynchos in Garrinae?[edit]

I don't think that Epalzeorhynchos genus belongs in this subfamily. Please see [1]. Also note no obvious Google references to Epalzeorhynchos in Garrinae. I'm no expert though.. --Jonbelanger 20:40, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

quoted site gives no references. I reverted. Lycaon 08:43, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

I agree in leaving it in Garrinae, until there is clearly a new review or a conclusive reference. Because Epalzeorhynchos has many similarities with the rest of Garrinae (under human criteria I would always place it in this subfamily). Better in Garrinae than in Incertae Sedis (according to criteria of info organization in the wikipedias). I believe that the best thing would be to put a note on the page indicating that this genre has been placed in Garrinae because traditionally it has been considered to be like that, but that it is in review. The same for Balantiocheilos. Greetings, --Pristigaster 11:55, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for looking into this. Again, I'm not an expert, just trying to classify some species in my tank. I'm somewhat surprised to find not too many decent online references for classification (any suggestions??) I may stand corrected, please note [2] (with references)

"...A [siamese algeo eater] might in theory be confused with some other species from the Crossocheilus, Epalzeorhynchus or other Garrinae genera (like Paracrossocheilus), but these are probably not imported regularly (if ever), and are not presented in most aquarium books. At least one member of genus Garra, the "green Garra", is sometimes available in Finland."

I'll fix the E. frenatus page to reflect the proper subfamily.

Also, a minor mystery in which I am completely lacking background came up. The E. frenatus seemed to be in the Labeo genus previously, but has been removed. I did note that the Labeo genus in wikispecies still listed the frenatus, bicolor, etc., as members of that genus. I also could find no references linking the Labeo genus to the Garrinae subfamily. Although, I probably do not know where to look...

Please note [3], which lists Labeo in Cyprininae.

How is this taxa even valid? Who recognises it? Current status: Valid as Garra alticaputus Arunachalam, Nandagopal & Mayden 2013. Cyprinidae: Labeoninae Current status: Valid as Labeo alluaudi Pellegrin 1933. Cyprinidae: Labeoninae. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by (talkcontribs) 17:01, 24 October 2018‎.
