Probable identity[edit]

From my own research on this author today, I believe this author's identity is probably George Abbey (1835–1917), who was employed by Charles Mark Palmer in about 1870 as head gardener at Grinkle Park, which is stated as his address on some of his articles in the Journal of Horticulture. Before then, he worked as a gardener for E. Hailstone, Esq. (Edward Hailstone?) at Horton Hall, Bradford. He was "disengaged" (dated term for being released from employment?) in 1886.

If this is correct he's probably also the subject of George Abbey (Q95991953) on Wikidata. (Except it gives his birth year as 1836, probably from taking 1917 and subtracting his age at death of 81 years)
