I think that somebody needs to give a cite fro "Equus mulus" being an actual 'official' species name as mules don't fit even the fuzzy definition of biological species concept. There have never been any known fertile mule stallions, and only about 60 recorded fertile mule mares in the last 500 years. Genetic testing on recent foals produced by mule mares shows that they pass on the complete set of maternal chromosomes - hemiclonal transmission. E.g. a fertile mule mare mating with a horse would produce a full-bred horse with no donkey genes. I think is page needs to be deleted. Bytor 17:54, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
- I added a reference but i'm not sure that this is a official name. From my knowlege i would say it's not, because a mule is a hybrid. --Kennyannydenny (talk) 06:59, 24 June 2010 (UTC)
- The article was updated in April 2019, stating the taxon as invalid. –Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 09:06, 19 March 2025 (UTC).
Aren't mules a crossbreed of a male donkey and a female horse? Booger-mike (talk) 00:18, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
