Notes[edit]

Curcuma sichuanensis was legitimately described by X.X. Chen (1984) with latin diagnosis. The word "sichuan" indicating it as a natural habitat in chinese province Sichuan. It should not be confounded with Curcuma chuanyujin, which is another chinese speciem, bearing the short cut "chuan" for Sichuan. According to newer results (Lui & Wu, 1999), based on typical plant studies, Curcuma sichuanensis is synonym to Curcuma albicoma. Curcuma sichuanensis, based on latest molecular analysis, should be combined under Curcuma longa due to its similar sequences in trnK gene or might be treated as a variety. These findings are also supported by traditional taxonomical characterization (Wu & Liu, 1989). Xiao et al. (2001, 2004) obtained very interesting results from extensive RAPD, histological and morphological studies based on numerical taxonomy. Thus Curcuma sichuanensis and Curcuma chuanyujin should be treated as varieties of Curcuma longa:

Curcuma longa cv. sichuanensis & Curcuma longa cv. chuanyujin
