- Holotype: USNM 558300, collected by Marjorie Falanruw on 04 August 2007.
- Type locality: “Giilab (= Gielap, Gielop) Island, Ulithi, Caroline Islands (Federated States of Micronesia)”.
- Etymology: Hatmaliyeb is one transliteration of the Ulithian name for this snake (likening it to a large worm from Yap).
