Holotype: BMNH 1946.1.1.97 (formerly BMNH III.3.2.a & BMNH 1842.11.22.30), ♂, presented by E. Belcher between 1843–1846.

Type locality: “New Guinea”, possibly in error fide McCarthy & Warrell (1991: 163).
