  • Holotype: MZUSP 115283.
  • Paratypes: many.

Type locality: Brazil: Paraná State: municipality of Prudentópolis, rio Barra Grande, tributary of rio Ivaí, upper rio Paraná basin, 25°04'55" S, 51°10'35" W.

Etymology: The specific name pachysarkos comes from Greek and means obese, paunchy. It is related to the swollen ventral surface of the head and abdomen in large males. A Greek adjective, indeclinable.
