Type locality: Brazil, Rio Grande do Sul, Santana do Livramento, rio Sarandi III, tributary of rio Quaraí, a tributary of rio Uruguay on road from Santana do Livramento to Quaraí, 30°34’40”S, 56°04’08”W.

Etymology: From the Greek pseudos, meaning false, and labiatus, in reference to a congener species that also presents well developed lips.
