Holotype: ZRC 2.6970, adult male, collected on 24 March 2008 by L. Grismer and R. Johnson.
Type locality: Bukit Larut, Peninsular Malaysia (04°51.715 N, 100°47.993) at 1151 meters elevation.
Etymology: The word bintangtinggi is a combination of the Malaysian words bintang meaning star and tinggi meaning tall or high and is in reference to the upland regions of the Bintang Mountain Range to where this species is presumably endemic.
