Ctenopoma ashbysmithi Banister & Bailey, 1979

Holotype: BMNH 1976.10.21.2

Paratypes: BMNH 1976.10.21.3-11 (9)

Type locality: Unnamed marsh, 10 km southwest of Kindu, Democratic Republic of Congo.

Etymology: Named in the memory of 2nd Lt. Adrian Ashby-Smith who helped the fish team for part of its stay in Zaïre (now Democratic Republic of Congo). He was killed in 1976 whilst exploring a volcano in Ecuador.
